Three months after the
creation of the first
Commission, the Hoosier
Lottery was in full
operation and on October 13,
1989, scratch-off ticket
sales began. On the first
day alone, 8.19 million
tickets were sold and the
totals for the first week of
sales exceeded $21.8
million. By March 1991, the
Hoosier Lottery ranked sixth
in instant ticket sales
among the 33 state
lotteries.
Hoosier Lottery profits have
generated more than $2.4
billion in proceeds used to
support teacher, firefighter
and police pension funds and
to lower license plate
taxes. Currently lottery
profits are distributed to
the Build Indiana Fund,
Teachers retirement and
Police/Fire Pension funds.
Since inception, the Hoosier
Lottery has totaled more
than $9 billion in total
sales. The games offered by
the Hoosier Lottery are as
follows:
